My uncle and grandparents are visiting for a few days. I feel uncomfortable around them, since my uncle is a homophobic jerk. I find I'm withdrawing. Thank god my house is so big.

I just dont understand why people feel the need to make bad gay jokes in front of homosexuals. Its insulting! My dad (my uncle is his brother) isnt much better. Although I told him how I felt, I dont think he got it.

I'm not anxious so much as angry! How dare he? In MY house too! I hate homophobia!!

You are so right...it is so rude to do that to you...You have to take into consideration their ignorance...but it still doesn't excuse them...I feel bad that they are in your home treating you that way...Isn't there anyone there that can talk to them and explain to keep quiet or go home?

I agree, it's rude of them, and probably based out of ignorance, not that that makes it any more right. Some people just don't get "it", and that "it" includes so many things. To have a parent though that does that, well, that is even sadder. Maybe your dad just really doesn't know how to deal with it all??? Are you two close?

I guess many people, and parents being people have a hard time with anything outside of the box. Maybe it's fear speaking? Sometimes people can do the most insensitive things without really realizing how insensitive they are...you know like the golden rule-do unto others as you would have done unto you...perhaps if they could just think on that for a sec, life would be happier for us all.

((((hugs)))) for you!!!! Stay strong!

Dezdemona, I understand how you feel. I'm a gay woman so I've experienced this kind thing many times before.

One thing I often get, is "Why are you upset, we weren't talking about you personally!" or "I don't mind lesbians, but gay men (usually NOT the words they use) are disgusting!"

LOL, trust my first post to be about something gay! Can someone chat with me please?
