Hi..i'm new and I have recently ended up in the E.R. 2 wks ago with a severe anxiety attack...this has happened to me me twice before, the first about 12 yrs ago, the second about 9 yrs ago and this recent one, I have been on meds for them for approx 12 yrs, have tried breathing therapy etc and the meds seem to be the only thing to have helped. I know the source of the recent major attack, so now my dr. is sending me back for the breathing therapy etc.....does this sound familiar to anyone?? Hi...I'm new here and.....

Of course it sounds familiar. ER is one of the places many people with attacks run to.Meds do seem the only thing that also help me but if breathing therapy really helps you then you should go. Sometimes it`s just a set back & refreshing some of what we`ve learned to control these attacks really helps. I hope you feel better!

Hi and welcome to PC!!!!!
I cant say I have been through any of this, I have had very odd panic attacks, but I have never ended up in the hospital.
I hope you figure it out and get better!!!

Thank you so much for your replies..unfortunately I have 2 children ages 6 and 8 and it's hard for me to get away and do any sort of breathing excercises or clear my mind of anything lol....i am very active in the community and started working for our school district as a sub in different positions at the school last year...I am scared to death that when I go back I'm going to embarass or my children somehow...and as I said..the meds seem to be the only thing to work, but the dr. wants to send me back to do the breathing exercises and all that and I'm not very optomistic about it working....my dr. is concerned I may become dependent on the ativan, but I have been taking it for almost 13 yrs and have only used it when I'm feeling overly anxious...but at this point I'm just scared to death that I will have another attack and end up in the er again.

I`m sure your doc is scared but if you really only use it when in need, as long as it`s not often, I would continue. As hard as it may be , try not to be fearful cause that is what stops us from doing all the things we love. on having an attack, I really try to take an I DON`T CARE attitude. I actually talk to the sensation when it comes saying you won`t kill me, I won`t die so if you have to come I`m not going to let you get to me. I know this sounds really weird but it really works for me. For me, the more I feared, the worse it was. I hope you feel better & DO NOT let it get the best of you!
