I am experiencing ongoing panic from something I read which is that the Earth rotates at 1,000 mph and orbits the sun at 67,000 mph. Since I am moving that fast, I feel that I can't stop myself and can't escape this speed (my mind is racing with panic from knowing this).
I realize that there is absolutely no way to feel the Earth's speed, but it's just from knowing that I'm moving that fast that causes me ongoing panic. Could someone offer solutions (such as thoughts that can ease this panic)? |

I don't know, realistically that is not that fast? - I mean not compared to the speed of say an asteroid, or a beam of light. All kinds of things up there move way faster than that. Your not going to fall off the planet trust me, no one EVER has!

Distraction.
What RedBarchetta says is useful. It's one of the skills taught in CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy): reasoning with facts. But that doesn't always work all the time. In the moments where it doesn't work and you feel overwhelmed by the thoughts, get online. Come here. Watch a movie. Go for a run/walk/swim. Listen to music. Eat something if you're hungry. Call a friend, or better yet hang out with someone. Do something fun, or just something at all. Anything to divert yourself from the thoughts. I have heard from some that visualizing a stopsign over and over until the thought stops is useful, as a rubber band snapped around the wrist can be as well. Whatever works. Experiment, and use these tools when your mind starts to race. I have the same problem and I have learned that I can't beat it so I have to evade it. Good luck. ![]()
