I'm going on vacation very soon. My T asks me if I'm excited and I say "no, I'm anxious!" I'm scared of the planes crashing, getting into an accident with the rental car, getting sick before we go (my knee hurts right now and I have an ice pack on it--don't know what I did), my H getting sick, or something happening to make us cancel the trip. I haven't gone on a real vacation for a long time, but the worries are driving me nuts. I am trying to use my mindfulness skills, and not panic. My T says and I agree, that I don't want to get excited because then I'll be very disappointed if we don't go.

Any advice? Thank you!

Do you have anti anxiety medication? That helps me when I'm overthinking nervous and worrying about every little detail.also,tv,books, music anything to distract my thought process.

I am the very same way about trips!

I just got back from one. What helped me (at least with the plane) is pre-visualization. Every day I would take ten minutes, lie down in a comfortable and safe place, and relax my muscles. Then I would imagine every stage of getting on the plane. Taking off, being in the air, landing. I would imagine it as a very positive and relaxing experience. I felt tense the first few times I did this and my mind would even wander into worry--that's normal! The point is to keep practicing until the worry stops. I had the best flight ever from doing this. I didn't "enjoy" it, really, but I was not panicking like I usually do and was even able to look out the window and enjoy the scenery!

Hope this helps!
