Anxiety and panic attacks are one in the same, but a panic attack is something experienced with very high anxiety, or at least, that's how I see it from years and years of personal experience. Professional support will do wonders. Distraction is good. There are ways to keep you grounded, such as using your senses to snap you to reality. I find jossticks a big help, as with herbal tea, because they have a distinct smell that helps to ground and relax me. If you're really anxious and your thoughts are runnign away with you, counteract it by watching a funny program, reading some jokes, or studying a topic you enjoy. Get your brain focused on something other than what is making you anxious. Breathing techniques are worth trying; I ignored them for years, but recently found proper abdomenal breathing can really help. I sometimes count in German (my second language) to as high as until I can't be bothered to do more, in order to have a time-out from my thoughts. Fresh air might help, too. Work on making your environment less chaotic - got a Godawfully messy bedroom? Clean it! Tidy it! Clutter is not good for your mentality. Might not be able to tidy your brain, but you can sure as a hell tidy your house, so it ends up being therapeutic, for me at least.
