One of my former employees left and started his own business. He took some clients with him and competes with us. I now suspect that some clients who stay are still friends with this guy and are trying to steal clients away from us. I hope my intuition is wrong. I was criticized for developing paranoia because there's no hard evidence. I feel very disturbed. Certain nights I wake up around 3am and felt very anxious. This is disabling. Certain days I can only function properly about 40% of the time of the day or less.

Sorry you are having such a rough time this happens to me to. Sometimes my anxiety can go from a 2 to a 10 and even into paranoia just over something like this. I hate those waking dreams that wake you up because you get so anxious, they are part and parcel of my suffering.

I get paranoid too without a lot of reason usually. Whether your concerns are validated or not, you don't know for sure so just have to take it at face value unless evidence comes to light. If it's not in your control, try and let it go.

I can understand your anxiety: I am self-employed and worry about the loss of clients. I'm not sure - given the experience you've had of client poaching - that your suspicions amount to paranoia. What seems problematic is not your suspicions but the intensity of your reaction to them, since at this point they are only suspicions. I hope they are proven wrong and that you'll be able to relax.

Thank you all for your encouraging words. I really appreciate it.

eScotty, I agree with you that my reaction is concerning. It's got so intense that when I see some clients I have trouble trusting, I feel very anxious. It takes effort to let go of those feelings.
