I have suffered with ptsd since childhood. It has gotten to the point that I dissociate and have audio and visual hallucinations. I have always had problems with paranoia and anxety, but up until a few years ago I was good at hiding it when out in public. I hadn't had a job in a long time because of it, but in the last year I got a divorce and am having to do things for myself, even though my former husband helps me when he can (We're still good friends.) My children have to live with my parents because he travels with his job and I am not in anyway capable of raising them, though i see them as much as I can. Anyway, (sorry I jump around alot) recently I tried to have a job, but had to quit because of so much anxiety. I have gotten to where I cant leave the house. I cant drive when I do leave the house, because everything scares me and I am afraid I will wreck. I have had treatment in the past, but I have no insurance so I cant see a doctor, although I do have anti-anxiety medication but it doesn't seem to work. I know I need therapy. Anyway, sorry for the long post. I guess my questions are:

Is there free mental health care in the United States?
I am going to apply for disability but I know how hard it is to get, is there any other types of help?

It has gotten so bad that I cant even sleep with out having night terrors and everytime I have those I wake up with scratch marks on my shoulders and arms from where I have clawed myself while asleep. My anxiety wont even let me have pretty nails anymore. that might seem silly, but its everything all falling apart. I just want to be able to function.
Hugs from:

Not sure where you live, the state where I live has medicaid available to disabled people, it can be hard to get approved but well worth it. It is the program that allowed me to get the help I needed and get to a place where my anxiety is very low. Also I was able to work through so many PTSD isssues to where they are rarely an issue. Another route is to check with any local mental health centers as sometimes they have income based programs. Sending you many hugs
