As I sit here writing this I am trying to keep from scratching. When I am stressing I break out in hives. After a couple trips to ER for fear of reaction to meds change my doctors have decided that the hives are stress related. Does anyone else have this problem?

I don't think I get hives but I do get very itchy all over when anxious.

Actually, I have had that problem. I have come down with chronic urticaria several times now. It usually lasted for several months, of daily outbreaks. Man, that sucked!!

I saw a couple of dermatologists, hoping that there was some remedy. I wasn't lucky at all in that department ~ creams, pills, hormones...nothing worked. I was miserable! One of the biggest helps for me was discovering an online support network. ICUS | International Chronic Urticaria Society

It isn't a real fast forum, but there is a lot of support and helpful ideas on things to try for relief available. I recommend that you check it out. There are lots of possible causes other than medication side effects. All of that info is on that site as well. It's been awhile since my last outbreak *knock on wood*, and I now avoid my triggers whenever reasonably possible. Heat, cold, fragrance in washing detergent & soaps, and sometimes I still get hives for a few days or so.

I hope that this outbreak doesn't go on too long for you, or get very serious. Btw ~ I do also have an Epi Pen just in case I get a serious case of angioedema. I think it was my 3rd outbreak when I had angioedema. Not cutting my airpipes, thank goodness, but not fun either! Get informed and demand proper care ~ those are two necessary basics that go along with chronic urticaria and angioedema.

Gentle hugs to you...

Yep I get hives when I am super anxious too, such a pain! But since being on the right meds and working very hard with CBT and therapy, I havent had hives for years.

I had hives for a few years because of an allergic reaction to antibiotics. My allergist said I could take 20 mgs (2 pills) of Zyrtec once every 24 hours (which would be as strong as the prescription he was going to give me, which would have cost more as it was name brand only) and it totally worked. I got the generic, as it of course is cheaper. I hope you feel better soon; hives are miserable!
