This is kind of embarrassing...

Uh. Yeah. Didn't know where to put this...

Um. So. I use refridgerators on a regular basis, just as much as any normal human being. Usually it's okay but...sometimes I randomly freak out around them. I...I'm not even afraid of suffocation, it's just...their presence just scares me.

Okay so pretty much everyone gets creeped out getting a glass of water at night, right?
Like there's nothing there that's going to hurt you, it's still your kitchen just dark, and it's just scary for some reason, you don't even know why.

That's me with refrigerators. I know it's just an appliance, it's not going to hurt me, but it just scares me and I don't even know why.

This started when I was about 8 I think (I'm 14)

The only thing I can think of...
My parents used to argue in the kitchen a lot. In front of the fridge. They'd slam the fridge door and stuff. They got divorced but it LITERALLY did not affect me at all. I didn't even care. Their arguing didn't affect me either. At all. Seriously. So this doesn't seem likely but it's all I could think of for why I'd be afraid of them

I have had (terrible) times in my life when I felt fearful of a piece of furniture. It is so illogical and SO frustrating! But it happens. I had a very severe breakdown this past winter and one of the horrible "things" about the breakdown was that I developed a fear of my bed. Totally crazy. Nothing bad had happened in my bed. My bed just sits there. I still slept in it (strangely, I was okay once I was lying down), but whenever I pictured my bed in my mind I felt fearful. Getting the right medication regime going has helped immensely. I really believe that in most cases, these kinds of fears are just brain chemistry gone haywire.

Well, this sounds to me like you have made a start on figuring out where this whole thing stems from. You don't think it affected you at the time but obviously it did. A lot of phobias start from childhood. Once you know where it stems from you can start to deal/cope with it better. Hugs to you!

That sounds very similar to how I feel! Nothing really happened with the fridge, it just randomly scares me I don't know why :P Good luck to you!!

Thank you ocg14. See, unless there's a very clear reason why you're afraid of a certain object I wouldn't go digging around too much with trying to figure out why you're afraid of the object. We can always come up with 100 reasons, but like I mentioned, I think it's just some kind of weirdo brain chemistry. For example, for some reason I feel depressed today. I would like to go and lie down in my bed and read or take a nap, but suddenly today (along with the depression) I feel all anxious and fearful about my bed. The feeling has come along with the depression. I truly believe it's all about brain chemistry. At any rate, I HATE it. What a waste of thoughts and energy
