I was told today I was not considered for a.promotiom because it would freak me out these are the exact words my supervisor told me.my work is exemplary my attendance great, I take on any task that is given to me . i have managerial background. My supervisor based this decision on my anxiety disorder.

I would think so I may have anxiety but I have a managerial background I got an almost perfect review this year. I stated my desire in my review to be given more opportunities. The girl who was promoted has half my productivity all day and sits around and gabs.

I'm not saying you aren't qualified or that you couldn't handle it, but I'm not sure if that is a discrimination case. Again - NOT saying that you aren't capable personally because I know nothing about your work life or anything like that and for all I know it's a terribly bogus decision - but an anxiety problem that involves being easily overwhelmed or losing your cool or whatever other things like that seems like a somewhat legitimate concern when considering who to promote to management... I mean you can certainly decline to promote someone to management because you don't feel they have the leadership capabilities but if poor leadership ability is labeled an anxiety disorder then it's discrimination?

Obviously I don't know anything about you and how you handle your job or any of that and anxiety issues don't always equate to poor leadership skills - I'm talking more from a theoretical point of view in response to thelostone's comment. I mean if it IS something that is really going to affect your performance I don't know if you can just be like "that's discrimination!".

For example, if I were a paraplegic and worked at the post office sorting mail I wouldn't be outraged because they passed me up for a mail carrier position after working there for 10 years with a great record of attendance/work rate/etc, even if the more junior mail sorters were getting promotions (seeing as walking and driving are primary functions of a mail carrier).

My main problem is that it was said in front of the other employee who received the promotion. I could accept any other reason but I do my job well I have extensive management experience as well. My revue thus year was pretty near perfect. I guess it just want handled professionally.

I'm sorry - if I want to have a socio-political debate about the workplace I can go elsewhere. I have anxiety problems and I would be really frustrated about that too... I wasn't trying to diminish it at all, just getting off topic because I like logical debates and was looking too hard to start one. Please accept my apologies.

I am so sorry about that. Your boss should not have done that in front of others. That is demeaning and embarrassing.
