Maybe it's a stupid question, but I can't seem to figure out whether I'm having an anxiety attack. I don't have social anxiety, but I have a lot of anxiety during certain events. So for example, sometimes when I'm in therapy I'll shake. Sometimes I'll shake and breathe really quickly. Sometimes I'll shake, breathe really quickly, and feel like my face is getting very very hot. Are any of those instances of anxiety or are they anxiety attacks?

I think shaking, breathing quickly and your face getting hot definitely qualifies as an anxiety attack. I think those three symptoms together would meet the qualifications of at least a minor to moderate panic attack.
When I have a panic attack (always in social situations) I get depersonalization/derealization and feel lightheaded and a little dizzy (no heavy breathing or shaking). I've also had the "hot face" feeling during panic attacks. The "hot face" can also just being embarrassed or whatever (just anxiety) but if you're also breathing heavy and shaking I think that is a panic attack. |

With my anxiety/panic attacks I get shaky, heavy breathing, face hot or numb, everything gets really loud, sometimes I cry a lot, frantic...
I would say you're at least having a minor-mod anxiety attack like nowheretohide said. Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk |

Is there a difference between anxiety attack and panic attack? I assume they mean the same thing. The attack is the full on fight or flight response being triggered.

I don't think there's a difference, I just used them interchangeably in my post. I think the technical psych term is "panic attack" though (panic disorder).

[QUOTE] Social Anxiety is an very uncomfortable feeling all day with life=klonopin and Valium for their longer half life.
Anxiety attacks happen immediately and can be predictable in certain situations or very unpredictable. In other words, they are not a day long issue unless you have both. That is why they prescribe a very short half life like xanax 2-4 hrs to get through a concert or a meeting or just a sudden attack. Remember that constant use of benzodiazepines can easily cause tolerance and addiction to those inclined! Your pdoc should try to use either time as prn, ie a long hard day= a klonopin dose and a party or family get together (shorter)= xanax! Hope that helps and always talk to your doc or pdoc about these issues!!! A link to the two: Anxiety disorder- Wikipedia Panic attack- Wikipedia I would give you the links but this website won't let you work on a project for to long apparently!!! I hope this helps ![]()
