Today, this morning, when I took the bus into town and on the way to the library - and this was just before the driver asked if there were any library stops when nobody answered - I couldn't say a word. So, I pulled the wire thing to let him know that there was one. He asked, "Library?" and I couldn't speak, I nodded without thinking. He asked again, while seeming a little angry to me, and I pushed out the words "Yes, please!" He then said he'd be dropping me close by across the street instead of right next to the library building because he had to catch another route. No more words wouldn't come out of my mouth. Although, I did manage to say "Thank you" as I got off the bus. Apparently, it's a little bit easier for me to talk when closer to somebody than a few feet away. I hate having to speak up.

Well at least you didn't totally miss your stop. I would say you got it out just in time! I think the more times you do it the easier it gets also. Keep working on it and give yourself credit for at least saying thank you!
Thanks for this!

Hi SilentGirl, despite being in a situation which must have made you really uncomfortable......needing to have the "spotlight on you", having the added pressure of the driver seeming angry........you did it!! You got your message across and a "Thank you" at the end!! Well done!!
Time to congratulate yourself!!!
As for the driver seeming angry though, I wouldn't necessarily take it personally (if you are). Might be he was having a bad day, might be he was under pressure from something........doesn't have to be a reflection on you. And you made it through that anyway!!!
And if you're finding it just a little easier to talk to people closer to you, there will be situations where you can close that gap a bit. Just try to look out for opportunities/situations where you can do that.
But......the bus ride today.......triumph!!!
Alison
Thanks for this!
