So I'm 20 years old and I haven't been to the dentist in a few years. I'm scared to go to the dentist but I'm also scared to lose my teeth too so I asked my mom a few days ago to please make me an appointment, mostly because she still owes them money from my last filling and I don't know what insurance we have and I don't want to make a fool of myself while calling. I have a phone anxiety too so it makes calling them twice as hard. She keeps pushing me to make the call but every time I go to even dial the number I start crying an panicking. She says she had anxiety and that I need to get over it but she wont even help me out this one time. She'd rather my teeth fall out than make an appointment for me. I'm getting really fed up with this toothache and I just want to make this appointment and get it over with. How can I stop freaking out before I call? Any advice would be great..

Hello thisisme1894, What is going to happen when you call? 1st they will answer the phone and ask you who you are and what you need to be seen for, then you can make an appt. You will not be making yourself a fool. I used to work in a dental office people have anxiety all the time about going and just being there. They are used to it. So try not to worry. And you are right going will be easier than having your teeth fall out and still having to go sooner or later. I wish you the best, you will do fine.

So that's really a thing? "phone anxiety" I freak out with phones and go to embarrassing measures to ensure I don't answer it. >.< Been this way for so many years. I always feel so stupid... really glad that this is a real thing and that I'm not just being a giant tit.

I haven't seen the dentist in ages as well, and should really go, but... like you, anxiety. >.<
