I have suffered from depression since August 2013, but on top of it I feel overwhelmed at every little activity and just want to go back to bed. Is that anxiety or depression or both? It's extremely uncomfortable. Thanks . . .

Hi newgal2,

Some symptoms of anxiety and depression can be very similar, so it's hard to determine what it's from exactly.

I just looked online and it seems feeling overwhelmed is a symptom of both.

Something that's helped me with feelings of overwhelm is 1) writing things down, and 2) Turning any task into a realllllly small easy action to get myself moving. So if I have to do some work, I'll tell myself I'll just do the work for a minute or 2, and then stop afterwards if I want to. This helps to circumvent the feeling of overwhelm. And once I've begun working, I find that I continue to work after the minute or 2 is up. Apply this to any activity you have to do and it may help a lot.
Thanks for this!

Anxiety and depression usually happen together, so it could be both. I get severe panic attacks, that lead to depression. I am on medication that does seem to help me at times.
Are your meds working for you?

For me, that would be depression. If I have no energy to do the activity, it's depression. If I'm too hyped up to concentrate properly without nervously checking my surroundings every 30 seconds, then it's anxiety.

That's just y view on things. Hopefully that helped. Good luck
