When I am having a panic attack, my heart starts beating so fast I'm afraid I might die. Does anybody experience this or something similar?

I've experienced that and so much more. Anxiety can bring on many physical symptoms.

Yes that, and so much more. Your system is in "fight or flight" mode.
Once you get scared from the racing heart, it's not uncommon to hyperventilate. That produces a lot of other fun symptoms like dizziness and the sensation that you're smothering.

Panic attacks are awful.

The old "breathing into a paper bag" actually decreases oxygen intake, not a good thing. Focusing on deep, slow breaths will decrease your heart rate. Lots of breathing exercises/meditation on Youtube. Practice them and use them when you get anxious before it turns into a full blown panic attack.
