talking with someone a lot of times helps me when I get to the point where self talk and sensory techniques arn't working. Do you take medication? That's something that really helps me, but can also tip me off the edge when I forget to take it.

I hope things are going better for you now.

ive been having really bad panic attacks lately...they always hit at night when i get home and am studying or working on something. it gets hard to breathe, my heart is beating so fast and i just cannot calm myself down. i used to think i could handle it by myself but its just getting worse. i have been reluctant to see a doctor about it thinking i can just deal with it, but maybe its time to do something about it? i dont really know waht to do, and would appreciate any advice you guys can give. it feels better just getting this out and letting it go...its gotten to the point where i dont even know waht im anxious about anymore! its driving me crazy!! help!!!!!!!!!!

for the past few days i have been having just about non-stop panic attacks, but have only taken meds 1x, when it turned into a major attack. I have been just carrying on with my life, although i must admit i didn't go into work today and it was almost a waste of time today! I really hope you can find a way to get through this as I totally know how debilitating it is... PM me any time if you just wanna let anything out, or say how you are going. At the mo, like i said, i TOTALLY know what it is like and just wanted to let you know that. Take care.

(( des )))

It might help to write about what's going on. The act of writing can be calming and getting things out of your head and on to paper can be too.

Changing your surroundings a bit could herp. Dim the lights, light some candles, loewr the noise volume (TV, music).

Good for you for trying different ideas.

One day one thing works for me and another day it's something else. I frequently pace/walk inside my apartment. Sometimes I drink a calming tea called Sleepytime Tea (by Celestial Seasonings, avaiable at the supermarket or online), or I engage my brain and do crossword or other paper puzzles (if I can, sometimes concentration and focus are not there)

Keep a list of what works for you to have as a resource when you might need it again.

I hope you feel much better soon.

I take Zoloft 50 mg I started 2 months ago and the reason I did was because I needed help to get my body on track I couldn't do it myself so the meds help. But I also changed my whole lifestyle, I knew that meds were the whole answer. I excercise it relaeases alot of the good endorphins in your brain plus it gives you something else to focus on. Yoga also is good excercise which is quite relaxing because it teaches you your breathing ( but you already know that) Vitamins especially the stress ones that deal with your nervous systems like B Complex which you take with Vitamin C, when you srtessed your body quickly depletes these vitamins, multi-vitamin, having a C.D player by your bed and playing a c.d with ocean sounds iyour mind will focus on tis and help you sleep, if you wake up just turn it on again keep doing this and you'll find it evenuatly helps. It takes about 2 weeks for the vitamins to get thru your system but I swear by it. No caffeine, lots of herbal teas especially chammiole, pepperment, spearment, lemongrass if you like teas. Seeing a Master Herbalist or accupuncturist can give you alot of valuable info, Also Cognitive Therapy works thats why Therapists work they get you to understand that your attacks won't hurt you and your symptoms can be fixed by talk therapy and paying attention to positve( like telling yourself when your having a attack...ok relax your having an attack it won't hurt you,it will pass and so on) But you have to allow yourself to look at the negative toughts but only for a minute and then let it go..I know it can be scary but with time and patience you will get better, wishing you all the best from someone who has been there.....god bless.

Thank you guys........good posts.

I went out & bought some yoga DVD's. Did some yesterday when I had another panic attack & it helped.

I forgot to get an ocean CD.....will try to get that today.

Echoes, good idea, re: list. Never thought of that before. Will try it.
Thank you.

I used some weird techniques to help me with my panic attacks, but they did work....

This one sounds really stupid, but I would sing my symptoms out loud. As bad and scary as the panic attack was, I couldn't help but laugh and feel silly when I forced myself to do this. I would sing, "Gooiiiinnnng to vomit, got a racing hearrrrrrrt, gotta pass ooouuuuut, shaking soooo baad, la la la, doo da deeee..." I'm not even kidding about this. I would do it. Loud.

Also, I'm a pretty visual person (deep breathing never worked for me), so I would picture the panic attack in my head, as some sort of being-- like a gray, blob-like monster, or however you want to picture it... And then I'd picture myself kicking its @ss. (Can I say that here?) Oh well. Anyway, the visual technique would actually help me feel stronger, and know that my mind can take over the panic attack. That I am bigger and stronger than the attack and I can overtake it.

So yeah. The techniques are a little different. But so am I.

Really bad panic attacks

I hope you feel better.

I sing too................to my cats and make funny lyrics to songs about them.....it makes me feel better and reminds me that they love me even though they look a little startled when I do it cause they're all fuzzed and curled up.....

If I'm not home, I try to breathe, it doesn't work so I'm gonna try the monster visualization and me kicking it's arse!!!!

I love the one about beating the cr@p out of the monster! I'm afraid that it would be hard for me to contain that in my head, like I would actually start kicking things, or at least make some motions. How do you think my classmates would react to that one? Really bad panic attacks
