Hi,
I suffer from recurrent depression which tend to get worse over the years. Beside that I got anxiety (for a lot of situations) and panic attacks which I never had before. I never was anxious except social anxiety) let alone that I had panic attacks. Is it possible that anxiety disorder develops at an older age (I am mid 40)? |

Hi pearlys, I think an anxiety/panic disorder can develop at any age. Are you in treatment? Therapy would be a good place to start.

Yes, I believe anxiety can develop at any age. I was told I have general anxiety disorder when I was 23. I couldn't believe it, no way could someone like me get anxiety, not at this age (being 23 was ancient to my ignorant/anxious mind.) After talking to someone I realized I have had anxiety my whole life. My moms anxiety worsened as she got older, but eventually calmed back down.

HI Blue Bird,
Yes I am in treatment, have been hospitalized a couple of months ago because of severe depression. Have since my "release" been to psychiatrist and recently started medication (first lithium but due to severe side effects now on seroquel mainly for sleep aid). Feel more quiet now but dont want to be on any meds if possible. At the moment however my life is miserable and my problems overwhealming. Suffer from chornic stress as well. Hope therapy can help. |
