hey guys,
I wonder if anyone could explain me from where comes feeling of being very heavy, feeling like gravity would kind of pierced/push in the ground ? I use to have these feelings about a half a year, but it disappeared by itself no idea how... But yesterday it came back, when I was waiting for gp doc I suddenly started to feel dizzy, weak, but at the same time like I would have heavy armor on myself which would crush me down :c all this feelings triggered anxiety and feeling like dying, today the same, not as bad as yesterday, trying to keep calm, but feeling of this crushing pressure scares me:c when a friend told me long time ago why heart starts beating fast, how it works, it helped me to deal with it, but I have no idea how 'heavy feeling' works, can't understand that and can't stop thinking that maybe it's something serious, even if doc says it's 'only' anxiety :/

Hi lucami: Well... my thought is that it is anxiety. High levels of anxiety can produce all sort of different feelings such as light-headedness, floating, & even being outside of your body, as well as the other effects you mentioned.
I'm not aware of any particular condition that would specifically cause a person to feel heavy or weighted down. So I'm going to place my bet on anxiety... kind-of a panic attack sort of experience. But best to discuss it with your physician. ![]() ![]() |

there is a well-known phenomena that is associated with sleep, where the muscles are paralyzed so we don't run out of the house (except for sleep-walkers, where this function is impaired). the brain is sooooo complex, it is possible that you are experiencing some form of transference of sleep-related brain activity while awake.
i just mention this, because the generic "anxiety" really doesn't explain anything, does it ? i've done a lot of research on brain function, and malfunction, just so i wouldn't have to feel helpless and ignorant. of course, i am not offering medical advice~ just an observation that odd things do happen when the brain is malfunctioning. if you are suffering from anxiety, perhaps you will find some useful skills/tools in this post: http://forums.psychcentral.com/copin...g-skills~.html it is a collection of DBT, Anxiety Management, and Crisis Intervention skills. best wishes~

Welcome, lucami
![]() It's true that anxiety and or depression can cause any kind of physical sensations. You might want to read up on what is happening inside your body at these times. Also, sudden jerking, kicking, body jumping, when going to sleep is normal, could be your brain shutting down for sleep. I do it all the time, and sometimes I know my leg kicks really high. lol

While it is usually good to follow your doctor's instructions, they don't know everything. I have had issues the doctors had never heard of.
Could it be the kicking/shaking wakes you and then you start worrying about it and that keeps you awake? Maybe try to get right back to sleep and not think about it. You know it's going to happen, so don't stress about it. Also, your physical symptoms are most probably caused by anxiety. I remember when I first got treatment, I had terrible anxiety/panic attacks and always felt like I was going to fall over. I never did, it was just a feeling. Now I know what is going on when I have an attack and it's a lot more manageable. I hope you feel better soon ![]()

yeah, but that's why docs should give referrals for tests imo, there's so many dangerous illness, so it's always better to find out earlier what's happening or check just in case :s
well it used to wake me up when I was almost asleep, but lately it's like I'm laying in bed 5 min, not sleeping yet, and this happens and I don't feel sleepy any more:/ normally I'm ignoring this, but lately it happens everyday and I don't know what to think about it :/ yeah I have physical symptoms too, for almost year I had feelings like I would be dying, felt such dizziness I couldn't get up from floor, felt like I would be crushed by gravity, once I passed out.. my first psychiatrist said totally nothing when I told her about this, just 'meh, take meds', and everything was going even worse when I started to have side effects.. People from internet told me more, told me what is going on while panic attacks. Probably that's why I need to know everything for sure, knowledge can bit calm me down, but because I really passed out once, about 3 years before fully blown anxiety I'm never sure it's just a feeling, I'm worried that I could really pass out again or something :c same with diagnosis, I'm still worried that I may have schizoaffective disorder insted of GAD, tomorrow going to psychiatrist and I'm worried what he will say eh :c

If you're passing out, you are most likely hyperventilating. I went to the ER with a panic attack and I asked a nurse if anything could be done.
She gave a smart ***** answer and said, "No, but if you keep breathing like that you'll pass out." Real nice person.

when I passed out I was on the lesson at school, just laughing, and suddenly I hear everything like from a distance, and my vision got totally white, which was kinda strange, normally ppl says that while passing out everything gets black..
heh that's how docs and nurses are here too, i just hate this kind of attitude...

I thought that I was the only one to ever experience this. You explained it well. I tried to tell my doctor sometime ago but have issues with explaining it. It feels like an invisible heavy pressure, likes its pushing into me, my face chest and stuff and I have to stop thinking about it because it scares me so bad that I get panicky. I also experienced that really intensly while I was being hypnotized once some years back. I do not believe I went to a full relaxed stated due to that issue. It was very scary, I did not like feeling this weird heavy feeling. I hope there is someone that knows what this is |

somatic attack again, while taking a bath I started to feel heavy and even moving legs and getting up was heavy..
my pdoc never had other patient who would feel like would be heavy, crushed by something.. and besides this heaviness like I would wear full plate armor I feel pressure on the back and sides of my head.. does this may be symptom of panic attack/anxiety or it's something physical? I have this feelings since I get up again today :s
