Hi everybody!

I just joined the forum today and I'm happy to be a new member. I will be very grateful for any replies I receive.

I had severe child abuse when I was a kid. Now that I am older coping mechanisms are fading away. I've become numb and have difficulty with taste and smell. I struggle with severe anxiety and depression on a daily basis.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Best

Tom

hi tturn
i have ptsd from my abuse as a child. i dont relate to loss of senses but definately the anxiety and depression. the depression has been lifelong wanting to die since i was five. i was like that for 30 years. the anxiety didnt really become so bad till i was older and now it is horrendous including agoraphobia because the world is not a safe place. it took the right meds and therapy to get rid of the depression and it was like the magic wand i prayed for for so many years finally hit me over the head. the anxiety i still take meds for to function. i have DID from my abuse and dont remember much of life before age 12. abuse does nasty traumatic things to us. getting help from a therapist that specializes in trauma is the best way to go.

welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

Hi Tom,

Welcome to PC. Can recall symptoms pertaining to anxiety since I was a teenager. Depression since around the same time. Wasn't until the past decade that I dealt with both through therapy, self help and supportive networks.

Hope you find this place as supportive, as I have.

Hi Tom. I'm so sorry for your experience as a child But you can still improve your coping and have a happy life. I'm happy that you joined PC. Welcome Hope that you can have also support in real life, possibly a therapist.
If you want to find people with a similar experience, I'd suggest you to post in Survivors of abuse.
Welcome again.
