Hi,
I'm a long term sufferer of OCD, BDD and depression. However, it's been clear for a while my sister also has OCD, maybe other problems too. She's finally agreed she needs help, but doctors are rarely intuitive and forthcoming in diagnosing someone who's; on the fence about whether or not they indeed have a problem.. So i'd like to get her to fill out a questionnaire, so that she can take this to her doctor to get them to take her seriously... I also think it will help her take it seriously. I had previously thought the Yale Brown Checklist was the right questionnaire, but looking through it now; i'm not so sure. Could someone give me the name of an appropriate questionnaire? and it's abbreviation. thankyou, C5

I was in fact given the Yale Brown Checklist. To my shock I checked off much of those things on the list. It really opened my eyes as I had never considered myself as OCD. So too I obviously had not known the complete spectrum of OCD beforehand. Frankly, I only thought of the 'typical' symptoms: obsessive handwashing, putting things in order, checking and rechecking. Well, weren't my eyes opened. I was put on an anti-obsessive for a time. CBT gave me some skills to cope allowing me to withdraw from the medication. I really had no idea how much my OCD was controlling my life.
So yes, go ahead and get her to take a look at the checklist. By the way, it is not officially used to diagnose rather it is used to narrow possible diagnoses. It could point to other disorders as well. |
