I just dropped our dog off at a boarding kennel for a few days, I cannot believe the separation anxiety I was feeling, my hands were shaking and I could hardly talk to the office gal.

We adopted her from a rescue three months ago, and she's been quite a bit of work, but I'm caught off guard how hard it was to drop her off. I hope I can enjoy the weekend away!

It's triggering one time when I came home from school and my suitcases were packed, stacked neatly on the bed...I was driven to a different home across town, no explaination nor warning given. My folks had died three months earlier, and I guess this first family just didn't want me anymore.

I promised my little girl-dog I'd be back. I promise. Now I'm anxious about crashing - I don't think I put a 'in case of emergency' on her kennel forms...I never thought about who would take her, oh dear, always something to worry about!

oh, she should go back to the rescue and that is on her collar, right?

the last time I saw Momma, she said 'see you on Monday' and 'see you later', is that why leaving anytime is hard? I can't say that to my kids.

It sounds reasonable that they are connected...

You can call the kennel and double check that you gave emergency contact info.

We left for FIL's cabin late Friday afternoon, just after DD got off the school bus. Arriving at the cabin was so sureal for me, I didn't realize how anxious I had been for so long, and I also didn't anticipate how relaxing the cabin was going to be.

Down side was DH and FIL spent most the day Sat and Sun trying to fix a water leak under the cabin, we had no running water either....but amazingly everyone made do with little effort (paper plated it). We did get the dock in Sunday morning, so that felt productive.

I feel I had a jump start on getting a grip on my life. I thought about how difficult it was to leave our dog (and it's holiday so I can't get her until the morning)....

I came home with the determination to do more EMDR - particularly of the 'leaving' of Momma that last time.

We pulled our pop up camper home also, and I found myself obsessing about my losing control ~ I drove the first leg home to face it, and was reminded how nicely it towed....

I don't know where I'll be tomorrow, but for now, I'm feeling more rested and calm than I have in months and months.

Have got to call this T I know and set up some EMDR appointments.
