Have you ever gone away from home for a few days and felt nervous going to sleep in a new house? And then when you come back home you suddenly feel this rush of joy or relief. Home!
This sounds like possibly an instance of Separation Anxiety. I always thought it was for children, but the more I think about it, the more instances I find in my own experience. What about you? Have you some experiences that reflect separation anxiety? Someone or something you can't stand to be separated from? Want to share more on this with others and here other's experience? This will be the primary focus of the Anxiety Support Chat on Wednesday night 8PM EST. Come on down to be with other people that understand and accept you for who you are. For more on this here is an article: Separation Anxiety Disorder Symptoms | Psych Central

It depends on how my anxiety levels are and if I'm having flashbacks. It also depends on how I feel with my other health conditions, if I am feeling unwell or anxious I tend to not want to be too far away from my husband. He's pretty good about understanding why and is very patient.
I also don't like being gone from the house for more then a few days and we are about to leave for 3-4 weeks which has my anxiety up a bit. |

Funny enough, I actually love being away from home or "familiar places". I love hotel rooms, I love being on the road, airports and all. I feel like I have nothing to prove in these places.
However, if I'm supposed to stay at a someone else's place, I'll be really uncomfortable... |

I have severe anxiety and even panic attacks when I forget my necklace at home. I have to take it off when I shower or workout since its made of wood. It has my twins ashes in it. I also have her Abu from the Aladdin movie that right after she died and for pretty much a ur after I could t go anywhere without him with me.
At school he'd be in my bag. After a bit I was able to keep him in the car which at first caused a lot of anxiety and panic like what if my car gets stolen or he gets stolen from my car. Then eventually I was able to leave him at home. Yet it's been 7yrs and I still panic an have anxiety leaving him. What if there's a fire? Break in? The cat destroys him? Tornado? Etc.

Yup! Tons of separation anxiety. I can't sleep over at others... I don't like being away from my family...

I feel anxious when ever I have to leave my apartment. As soon as I pull into my assigned parking space I am happy.

I used to get this when I was a kid and had sleep overs at friends, on one occasion the parents had to bring me back home.
Now, not really, I like hotel rooms - they become my little space for my stay. Sleeping at others homes is rare now, I'm okay with it but the bed never feels quite right. |

So after posting on this thread and thinking I didn't have separation anxiety suddenly I did.
First day in new job feeling overwhelmed, texted my husband at lunchtime "I need a hug!" Felt so much better when I got home and got a hug. ![]() |

Understand this so well! I am a total homebody. It's what makes me happy. I can get physical symptoms of homesickness when I am away too long! It is hard for me to be away from my boyfriend and my furry-child (dog). Had an out of town engagement lasting 2 1/2 months, and I have to say it was HARD. Luckily I was working most hours I was awake, but when I wasn't I nearly fell apart! I have been in college for over four years now, and being away from family has been difficult as well. I have GAD, but I don't know if that is a common issue related to it or not.
