I have Health Anxiety and have been on Lexapro for about a year which has been fantastic. Before this, my HA was extremely bad.

Recently I was chatting to a friend of a friend who is a CBT therapist and was telling her about my HA. She asked what treatment I'd had and I told her I hadn't had any, just my Lexapro which have been great.

She told me that I really should get it treated and it got me thinking. I guess I don't want to be on anti-depressants forever, but I don't want to face coming off them or getting Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, purely because I'm skeptical as to how effective it is in the long term.

Has anyone else received CBT for HA? Did it help? And do you think its necessary?

I haven't had it for HA but it sounds like it could work. I mean you have a lot of slanted thoughts running through your head about your health, and CBT will help you fix those bad thoughts.

CBT is great stuff. I love it. Meds are no cure, just a band aid of sorts.

CBT worked wonders for me. I'm still struggling with my HA issues, but I'm a lot better than I was before. It only took about five sessions for me to notice a big difference.

CBT is great to start with. A good therapist though is of much greater importance though.

My lecturer always says that it's best to continue Psychodynamic therapy after CBT. She believes that every anxiety and mental health related problems are rooted in our childhood's attachment relationships (i.e our parents).

I don't believe in solo medication treatment for any mental illness. It can help and may be necessary when symptoms are too severe to even breathe, but.. yeah..
