Hi all

This might be a long winded post but really need your advice or help.

Since January this year I have been in an awful state - thought I had lung cancer, then throat cancer, then stomach cancer & now I am convinced I have colon cancer!

Since January I have had ~
Full blood counts & other common blood tests
Camera down my nose to my larynx
Chest x-ray
Endoscopy to look into my stomach

All the above was normal. I suffer with SEVERE Health anxiety and from end July my partner and I have had stomach issues from cramping to change in bowel habits to feeling ill. We have both been to the dr 6 weeks ago and they did a stool sample which came back normal so no virus/parasites found. I went back to the GP about 2 weeks ago as the symptoms still have not disappeared and he took bloods including celiac tests and CA125(ovarian cancer marker tests) they have come back normal BUT he has referred me for a colonoscopy (NOW I AM REALLY FREAKING OUT), whats even worse is I have lost about 7 lbs in nearly 7 weeks, so if I put 2 and 2 together a change in bowel habits and weight loss equals YES the big C!

I weigh myself once a week or maybe twice a week on the same scales at Boots and I have DEFO lost weight. I used to be the person to eat crisps at 11 am, then lunch, then a choc bar, then maybe a few biscuits, go home have a relatively big dinner and then lay in bed eating skittles or choc again, I have not done that for a long time - could this be the reason for the weight loss?? I also get married in 7 weeks and now fretting this will never happen as when I have the colonoscopy they will find a tumor and the tumor is feeding off what ever I am eating...... CAN STRESS CAUSE WEIGHT LOSS (even if you are eating)??

Please can someone HELP me, I google every single day about unintended weight loss, what cancers cause this weight loss and sooo afraid to now weigh myself, eat anything fattening as if I do and still losing weight that means its not my eating habits.....

Anyone if you can help me please I would really appreciate it.
Hugs from:

Hello Kay8010: I'm sorry you are having such a difficult time. I had cancer & I've had 2 colonoscopies (not related to the cancer.) So I do have some small idea of what you're going through. I don't have any definitive information with regard to whether or not stress can cause weight loss. All I can say is that, in my case, this has not been my experience.

I struggle with anxiety. But my weight seems to fluctuate with my eating habits. I weigh myself at around the same time every morning. So I know, on a day-by-day basis, if I'm gaining or losing weight. I intentionally keep myself quite thin. And I can pretty-much predict how my weight will be in the morning based on what I ate the previous day.

Of course, if stress is causing you to not eat, or to eat differently than you used to (less fatty foods) then this would likely cause you to lose some weight I would presume. But in this type of situation I would think the reason for the weight loss would be because you're not eating... or eating differently... not directly as a result of your anxiety, if that makes sense.

I know how upsetting it can be to wait out having tests such as colonoscopies & then to await the results. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about that. It's just something we all have to get through at one time or another. So I send warm hugs your way with the hope that you will be able to find deep peace within...
