it's 1 week until christmas now, and I keep thinking that their's going to be a storm.
last year we got a storm on december 22nd knocking out power for 2 days (thankfully it came back christmas eve) I am just hoping it's not going to happen again. the weather seems to suggest otherwise- we just had 1 big storm (storm angus), and it's still the right sort of weather for another one. (I live in england, I shouldn't be afraid of storms!. But I am!) |

If your fear of a storm is causing worry about the holiday meal, are you able to do your cooking in advance? What is happening is something called Catastrophic thinking. There are a number of things you can do to cope with this. My favourite is completing a "Decatastrophizing Worksheet" (google it).
Consider and write out for yourself your worst case scenario. Consider then and list off the best case scenario. Now detail out those things that are actually quite likely to happen. This to your happy surprise will end up the longest list. Finally, look at each of the three catagories and assign a percentage of likelihood to happen. This should provide you some relief from the worry. I have already done this regarding my worry that some disaster will befall my preparation of the holiday meal, my plans to have my children for dinner being curtailed, and my worry about my daughter making the 7 hour drive in winter. I find it really helpful in relaxing a little and coping with the anxiety. |
