In one of my college classes, we're discussing a topic that I just discovered is a trigger. (After an episode of flashbacks, panic, dissociation). I am ok with the lecture/textbook portion discussing the material, but we are supposed to do an in class experience that is directly my trigger.
I'm just not sure how to proceed... do I skip class? Do I try to face it? This class is participation-intense. I'm worried I'll be shooting myself in the foot by skipping this experience day, both grade wise (small in-class project from day's material) and just getting behind in the material...but I also really don't want to have another flashback panic attack.... |

Hope this reply is not too late. Can you talk to your college therapist? They may be able to help you deal with the class, or if you have doctor/therapist note, you may be able to skip the particular experience without any penalty.

When I was in college I had a depressive episode that really impacted my grades. I went directly to each professor and they all worked with me. I remember I was so scared of public speaking that even though I had a 100 average in Internal Audit I was willing to take a C in the class rather then do that project. I talked to my professor and he worked with me. I guess what I'm saying is to talk to your campus therapist but also talk to the professor. Good luck.
