I may have to speak to them at some point this week regarding an insodent at the place where I am.

I don't know how I can aproach it. I mean in my head, I know what to say, but then the police show up in their shiny policecars and they have their radios and their police uniforms, I just can't handle it after that point.

any suggestions?. how can I talk to a police officer without having an atack

I think for me the main thing is, I keep thinking police officers are their to abuse you and hurt you

but they arn't. they are their to help and to put people behind bars.

but I can't get past that

When dealing with Law Enforcement...all you can do is follow them, listen to them...and have your note pad if needed and allowed. They are your Boss!

I guess

but they are still scary

really, really scary.

I guess 1 of the things I should think about is that off duty a police officer is just the same as anyone else.

they probably just go home and do regular things that we do every day.

but still..

I don't know how to do it without a panic attack. Do you have a med that you can take to help you remain calm. You could also just tell them that talking to a police man makes you very nervous. Most policemen understand this and will go out of their way to help you calm down and feel comfortable talking to them.

I wonder if there is a way you can get to know a police officer informally. I went to high school with a guy that is now a police officer and it helps to know someone in that job. He's got a great sense of humor and I always think of him when I see police around.
Thanks for this!

I think this is a really good idea to know a police officer, so that I can get used to them.

it's just a case of... how.

I don't know any officers myself, and I certainly can't just ring the police and ask to get to know one.

but I love the idea.

even more so because riding in a police car is actually on my bucket list, and if I felt safe talking to a real one, maybe he'd let me have a look at one? (I don't know, i've heard they only do that if they visit schools)

In my area, the police have events every year. There is the "National Night Out" program and citizen safety seminars that I see advertised on their website. Maybe something like that would help if your local police have them.
Thanks for this!

Cops are just people doing a job. Most of them are decent and caring, some are jerks. They're just workers, employees of the community in which they work. Try not to give them more power than they really have, and good luck.

Have the report of the incident ready to tell them, and any evidence also. You'll be fine. Try not to tell them you have any mental diagnoses. I did that, and the police instantly changed how they regarded me. Do you have an inderal? That can stop shaky hands and other symptoms. Good luck. I hope it will go well.
