Recently, I have been experiencing chest pains. I'm not really sure why. Maybe I'm more anxious than normal. I am going off medication to switch it. It just really hurts a lot.

Get checked out ASAP. I had non-painful spasms in my chest and put up with it for 3 weeks, then my jaw and left arm started aching with them, so got to hospital. It was a heart attack, got one stent put in.

I just don’t think it’d be a heart attack, as I’m just a young adult. Statistically, people my age don’t get heart attacks. I guess I more wanted to know if other people on here get chest pains from anxiety too.

Yes I do. I get chest pains so bad it feels like a heart attack. When I have a panic attack I typically put my hand on my chest. I have also had a couple EKG's done so I know its not my heart. It doesn't hurt to get it checked out by a doctor.

Let me tell you...

I have had panic attacks since 1985. I had a major one as Christmas Eve became Christmas morning.

I have had five heart attacks since my first in 1994.

I associate chest pain with panic attacks rather than heart attacks... the latter feel much more like a sudden weight upon your chest that stops your breath.

Of course I also keep nitro-tabs scattered around like rosaries about the house. If I have any chest pains I pop a tab, or a second, but if the pain continues, I get the EMT’s here PDQ to check me out. And, as Iris had one stent, I have eleven in my heart and one in my right carotid artery. Plus the large vibrating, oh, never mind.

I don’t play around with chest pain - honestly? No one heart attack was exactly like another. Do you have a good - and I mean really good - blood pressure cuff and machine? I take my BP and check my heart rate as the EMT’s are closing in. They usually get here and stay until I’m calm, but... sometimes I am scared and I will go to the ER for an EKG.

Even if you just hit puberty, chest pain should put you on notice that something isn’t right. You may have swallowed a free-floating jalapeño seed and be suffering from gas. You may be having a panic attack. You may be suffering from a double-shot of ischemic heart arrhythmia native-son complexities. You may fart and feel good about yourself again.

Who knows?

You need to make friends with your local EMT-folks... next time you feel chest pains. Okay?

P.S. I’m guessing that minute smidgen of Ativan is supposed to ward off all anxiety ailments? Give me an effing break...
