Hello, I've been struggling on and off with worry thoughts. Even though my anxiety is not intense, I still deal with worry thoughts that pop up at random moments during the day. I really want to move on and enjoy the day. But I don't like the way these thoughts make me feel.
Things have been going well in my life but that has lead to some anxiety as well. Sometimes, these thoughts feel intrusive. I have decided to practice a daily routine of meditation but I can't make any promises. Also, I have already been prescribed medication by a psychiatrist. Do you have any advice for when I have these thoughts of worry? Any tips? Thanks in advance. |

What is it that you worry about? Is it something specific, or various random things? I worry all the time and I mean *all the time*! It may be specific stuff (money, work) or more generalized. I've just come to accept it as who I am. When it gets out of hand, drugs like Ativan have helped, as well as progressive relaxation exercises

Here are links to some articles on dealing with intrusive thoughts & rumination. Perhaps something in them will be of help:

The last link Skeezyks posted is closest to what my therapist recommends. I have a link in the depression forum called Replace a Negative Thought With a Positive One. It helps.
A good therapist helps too. My old one didn’t help much more than just talking to a friend. My new therapist uses more modern methods, like DBT and CBT. I suggest looking into it, if you haven’t already. |

Luckily i have a great phychotherapist, who talks to me about such things. I guess i just got lucky as i see a lot of people here don't have one or don't like them if they do. I get into the "what if" thinking mindset and it throws me off kilter sometimes but i find if i talk to someone it helps.

I realized after the longest time, that my mind only felt safe if I was worried about something...anything that potentially could make me anxious in the future. It makes me feel I am "protecting" myself by watching out for things with worry. My therapist has had me challenge those thoughts--like key tones mentions above with replacing the negative ones with a positive.

What I do is I think to myself is worrying about the future really going to change it. So ask yourself is worrying about the future going to change it?
