I'm tired of not being taken seriously by doctors when illness triggers my anxiety levels. It's infuriating, esp. because I'm a woman.
https://www.theatlantic.com/health/a...sexism/410515/ I've had a swollen throat for ten days. TEN DAYS. The 1st urgent care doctor prescribed me a strong antihistamine for the rash all over my hands that I showed her but she didn't diagnose the cause of (some rashes are viral, some are eczema, some are related to bacterial infections),and she didn't run any blood or saliva or urine tests. The 2nd urgent care doctor dismissively prescribed me an antibiotic for Strep Throat without running any blood or saliva or urine tests to rule out a bacterial strep infection or viral mono or mumps infection. The 3rd urgent care doctor told me that if I'd seen him first, he would have run all of the necessary tests before he'd have prescribed me antibiotics, but can't run those tests now until I finish the antibiotics. Then he sent me on my way. The 4th urgent care doctor looked at my throat, my hives, my rash, and without testing me diagnosed me as having the mumps and mono, even though she didn't bother testing me for either one. She told me to finish my antibiotics. That's 4 copays for a lot of nonsense. I couldn't get into see my regular doctor this week due to him being on vacation, and have an appointment with him next week. I did email him to ask him to consider testing me for those possibilities since the antibiotic has not improved my condition. Ten days of eating jello, pudding, mashed potatoes, mushed rice and mushed veggies and lots of soups and drinking lots of teas is getting old. Really old. I'm going to email the clinic manager and ask her to credit back my 4 copays for the nonsense I've been put through. |
