Hey~ I have my psych eval. on August 26th at the anxiety clinic at my college. I already know I have OCD (possibly some mild depression, and I self-injure). Anyway my dad is a psychologist and he was telling me that I'll probably end up going to cognitive behavioral therapy for the OCD. Has anyone had any experience with this? Is it any good? Thanks.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a very good course of treatment for people with OCD. It helps to train your brain to rethink illogical thoughts and behaviors. It is the best course of therapy for OCD.

I have recurrent moderate-to-severe depression, and I found CBT to be utterly useless. Even the guy who wrote the book (Dr. Burns and the ever-popular "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy") said it works best on people with mild depression -- which I've never had.
It does sound like it would be useful for OCD, though. There used to be a real me, but I had it surgically removed. -- Peter Sellers |

I think CBT is great for such things as OCD, I did a bit of that for my anxiety, and found it very helpful.

IMHO CBT should be the basis for most all good therapy. It has a solid foundation for building (by your T for you) the program of therapy you need. All therapy should be tweeked as you go, since we are all different with different ongoing needs. good wishes.

I'm also curious as to what is going to go on during my initial psych evaluation. I've never had one before. Can anyone tell me what to expect?
