I have social anxiety and I am very successful at pushing people away. It's the one thing in life I am successful at.

I've been pretty-darned good at this myself over the years. (Hey... somebody's got to do it.) It's to the point now where everyone is long gone except for my wife who just doesn't seem to know when to quit (fortunately for me.) The good thing is that, since I'm old, being just shy of completely alone isn't such a big deal. But it's not something I'd recommend for younger folks.
