Today, I saw my pdoc. He tweaked my bipolar meds (he suspects the propranolol is causing me to fall down a lot). I told him I had also started having new horrible panic attacks. Not that any panic attack is good, but these are lasting 3 to 4 HOURS instead of just 15 minutes like my earlier panic attacks, and breathing exercises don’t seem to help end them. He said at my next appointment (July 12), he might switch the Klonopin for Xanax XR, that it is likely I am building up a tolerance for Klonopin. It makes sense because I have been on Klonopin for around 10 years, gradually having the dose upped. He only likes to tweak one med at a time, so he has an idea of which med is doing doing what, and the falling down presents a greater physical risk, especially as I have osteopenia from an eating disorder.

Anyway, I had never realized there even was an extended release form of Xanax. Has anyone ever been on it? Did it help any? What side effects did you have?

I haven't taken the XR but regular Xanax worked better for me than Klonopin. It makes me tired sometimes and I get lightheaded, but most meds make me lightheaded.
