Does anyone experience annoying muscle tension in the neck area due to or seeming related to their struggles with anxiety? While my basic anxiety symptoms are under control to include the problems I had with panic and agoraphobia, the remaining "tension" in that area doesn't want to relent. I have arthritis there and that is a factor as I have more difficulty with one side of the neck versus the other where a bone spur is present. I guess I just would like to know this is a finding for someone other than I. Misery loving company and all!!

Cassy,
The back on my neck right into the shoulder blades is in constant agony. Even massages do not really break up my knots. While I do believe it is anxiety related maybe it is how you sleep? Sometimes pillows can get old and can kill your neck more and more over time.
The best I can recommend are hot cloths over the back of the neck and doing neck rolls when the pain is reallly bad.
I hope this helps.

Jessica

Thanks Jessica..... Do you use high or low pillows? Pillow? I have one of those fancy neck pillows and find I just can't use it for actual sleep. Naps, it seems to work ok, but at night, I just end up pushing it out of the way. I really am annoyed with this problem and I can't seem to find a solution other than using heat which is great, but quite temporary.

I have the same problem, too. Pillow(s) don't help any but I do try to keep my neck from curving. I'd give my right eye to have a massage but those can be quite painful afterwards, so I guess I'll keep my right eye. Physical Anxiety symptoms

Have you asked your dr about a muscle relaxer and pain reliever? Now THAT I'd give my right eye for when the muscles get tight! Physical Anxiety symptoms

I have Skelaxin. It works fairly well. Despite the claims that it's the least sleepiness producing of those type things, I still find myself drowsy and lethergic when I take it. I think I just wished it would "poof" and for periods of time, it does. I just want to wish it away for good... too much to hope for?
Honestly, the one massage I got was not the wonderful experience I hoped for. I do think the person was very well trained and experienced, but I was in awful achiness for days after... go figure.
