The word makes me think of the dementors in the Harry Potters books but this has been my main phobia since my 2015 attempt (never worried about being insane before doing that).
Google says the fear of madness is generally known as dementophobia. People who suffer from this fear are afraid that they are going insane or losing touch with reality. The fear may be triggered by a family history of mental illness or periods of severe stress. Anyone else on PC suffer from this? |

Yes, I have this. One of my many irrational fears, so to speak. Although, I feel is totally plausible if one does not take care of themselves. The image of dementors helps me ward off this affliction. That and keeping my forever puppy, Ember, close by.

I think I am just feeling this way to distract myself from multiple unpleasant thoughts (Though I do occassionally seriously wonder if I am crazy--my T says I am not and she would vouch for me if my husband ever claimed I was incompetent--yea, she was trying to ease my anxiety). Once upon a time, I would use SUI thoughts as a distraction. Dementophobia is an improvement. (Though I have been having panic attacks today) Took the SSRI I hate and a Xanax. I will be OK; I am just anxious. So many of us are (Hey this IS the Anxiety, panic and phobia forum. )

Definitely something I struggle with from time to time, going crazy and doing something truly awful that I could never take back.

Fortunately I don’t struggle with this as I can’t tolerate the freakin meds as you (probably) know It sounds like severe anxiety with some paranoia (probably) But I’m not a diagnostician and I don’t know of anyone here who can dx over the Internet I hope you feel better soon.
