Mostly, going to the doctor does not bother me but, there have been situations at the dentist (infected tooth that needed a root canal and crown--I asked for novocane only) and some therapy session where my anxiety went through the roof while waiting in the lobby for my appointment to start. When I went for the troubled tooth, at the time, I had been taking a yoga class where the instructor played beautiful, relaxing, Italian music (I wish I knew who the artist was now). When the dentist put on the device that monitors your pulse (and my pulse was way up), I took my mind back to that music she played in my yoga class/how that music made me feel and those thoughts brought the pulse right down. Just prior to a few intense therapy appointments, I quieted my anxiety by closing my eyes and breathing deeply but very slowly. I suppose those were both types of meditation so I think meditation helps when going to the doctor causes anxiety.
