I suffer from depression and along with it comes a lot of anxiety - mainly in the morning. Wanted to know if anyone in here have this. I think it has to do with heightened stress hormones when you're depressed. The evenings are better as the melatonin kicks in. The body and mind relaxes more.
But as soon as I wake up it's there. Ruminations, heart palpitations etc. It's awful. I take Oxapax (15mg) once a day to fight it but it doesn't do that much. The racing thoughts are still there. I can seriously understand why people selfmedicate with alcohol or drugs. Completely. Because this is not living. This is just way too hard for anyone. __________________ |

I am bipolar , depressed , have a lot of sui off and on , 62 and not really in very good health , high blood pressure and severe sleep apnea , . . . . no have not become addicted and I use it most days but only as needed . . . . besides that is the least of bad things that could happen to me . . . so my pdoc is like go for it . . . but it can become addicting . . . and if you become addicted it is one of the worst drugs there are to get off of . . . withdrawal from hell sounds about right . . . .

I wake up with anxiety too. For me it tends to get better as the day goes on. It seems to be related to my hypothyroidism. Thyroid medication has helped me and I also take 0.25 mg of Xanax in the morning. I hope you are able to find something that works for you.

Yes, sometimes. Actually it’s funny that I see this after logging in because I took a nap earlier today and woke up with really bad anxiety. I’m actually laying awake in bed right now as I type this experiencing anxiety at this very moment because guess what? I woke up out of a light sleep with racing thoughts.
I did some research and apparently waking up from a REM sleep cycle may actually cause anxiety! I read something else about how our hormones are actually designed to “jolt” us awake in the morning in an attempt to get us going. Understandably, if this were the case, that would explain why we anxious individuals commonly experience anxiety in the morning! |
