Hi,

Just wondering what meds everyone takes for anxiety? I am sensitive to SSRIs as I have gone manic on them before but I don’t have bipolar: just sensitive to those drugs. I’m on buspar and at first it was working but now it’s not. Is there hope for me or do I just have to live with this.

I’m on clonzapam for Anxiety, as well as gabapentin. I have panic attacks as well. These medications work well for me. Ask your doc about them.

I take Propranolol (Inderal is the brand name in the US) as needed for anxiety. It's technically a beta blocker, which slows the pulse and lowers blood pressure, so it works for my body symptoms better. I get racing heart and palpitations and quick breathing when I have panic attacks. I'm also on a form of gabapentin for nerve pain, that takes the edge off my anxiety, I've noticed, from when I don't take it. Sometimes, in the hospital, I don't have it and the doctor doesn't order a replacement.

Vistaril (hydroxyzine) didn't really work that well for me, but it did help. It's an antihistamine, like Benadryl (diphenhydramene). Not too sure how that one works to lower anxiety, honestly.

Valium and Klonipin worked the best for me. Both are benzodiazepines, which are designed as anti-anxiety medicines. I can't take either now, due to addiction and substance abuse issues.

I’m on buspirone right now but I actually think I need a lower dose. It’s making me lightheaded and have crazy dreams.

Do you take 15mg or a higher dose? I had mine increased once to 15mg twice a day and it was very agitating.

Yeah I think that's what the bottle says, I don't have it in front of me right this second though. I started cutting them in half, they did relieve a lot of my derealization but I'm so light-headed feeling that I can't concentrate, plus I have a terrible taste in my mouth. I am hoping that in a couple of weeks the side effects will diminish some, otherwise I'm going to have to try something else.

I take Xanax 0.5 and visteral 25 milligrams. They work great for the most part although I have developed issues with both of them that my doctors and therapist don’t know.

Was taking meds for anxiety, then anti-depressants with after dinner snack. PM Tylenol- for pain with anti-histamine and lots of fluids and exercise AM and PM.

Well good news this morning, after halving the dose I am not anxious or derealized OR feeling lightheaded and unable to concentrate.

Now I’m up to 2 milligrams of prescribed, not as needed, Xanax. It’s been amazing.

I take Librium which works well for me and one of my friends. It is also recommended for panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and social anxiety disorder.
