Hi, I’ve been dealing with a multitude of mental disorders (as obvious and probably manipulative as it sounds) and Ive recently been extremely stressed with school work and a couple legal issues and disputes.
I’ve always had a habit since i was a little kid of using objects to pull at my finger nails. As bad as it sounds, no I do not pull them off. The feeling of something, even my own nails digging under my other nails, makes me feel better for a short period. Like kicking your leg when nervous or twirling your hair. Would this be considered an anxiety related tick/issue? If so, what can I do to stop? Is it harmful? Last edited by bluekoi; Dec 15, 2020 at 12:00 PM.. Reason: Add trigger icon. |

Hello scenegirlsrockxxx: I don't know the answer to your question. What you describe certainly sounds like an anxiety-related issue to me as a layperson (perhaps a mild form of self-injury?) However I noticed this is your first post here on PC. So... welcome to Psych Central.
The Self-Injury forum, here on PC, is a forum you may also find to be of interest. Here's a link: https://psychcentralforums.com/self-injury/ And then here's a link to an article, from Psych Central's archives, on the subject of anxiety disorders: Anxiety Disorders: Symptoms, Types & Treatments | Psych Central I hope you find PC to be of benefit. |

I don't think so it is anxiety as people with anxiety mostly bite their nails so it is not anxiety. I am not sure but it can be Onychotillomania. I don't think it is harmful. You can apply some oil on your nail than you won't be able to hold and pull your nails.

Welcome! I am not sure as to the answer to your question. I also think it sounds like an anxiety related issue and maybe a mild forum of self injury? I am not a professional though. I hope you're feeling better than when you posted this. Feel free to share more if it might help.
