I have been off of ssri for a week. Is there light at the end of the tunnel?

This is a real busy stress filled week. All weeks are like this except for 6-8 weeks a year haha. There really is never a good time to come off. I went slow. But notice a difference and had some side effects along the way.

Anyone want to share their experience coming off of the ssri?

Good, bad, and the ugly doesn’t matter.

I tried to come off an SSRI twice and unfortunately had unhappy experiences, once ending up in a psychiatric hospital. My doctor said I suffer from chronic depression, a brain illness like epilepsy in that it requires lifelong treatment to manage. Since coming out of the psychiatric hospital I have been on an SSRI [Celexa] for 30 years now without suffering any serious depressions. Knock on wood! Hopefully your experience coming off your SSRI will be different than mine. People are different and so are depressions. I hope you get many responses to your post and want to wish you only the best in your continuing life journey.

Thank you for sharing this. I’ve only been off for a week and half. I’m hoping there is an adjustment period and yes this week is a stressful one, but there is never a good time to come off. I know going down, each transition, took some adjustment. I think I’m just impatient.

Thank you again, I appreciate knowing that someone is on the ssri for life, and I will remember this if that is the path for me.
