I tend to do this

even if there is no sound I put my hands over my ears and just hold them there

@emily1890 I try covering my ears but it does not make me feel any differently.

Crawling into bed is a way to deal with anxiety. @CANDC

I don't know if this is what you mean but certain loud noises around here make me cover my ears with my hands until it stops. There's a guy with a really, big, NOISY truck with an engine sound I find unbearable. I have to cover my ears when he starts that dang thing and keep them in place until he LEAVES. I can hear him coming down the street too, so I think "oh no, here he comes."

Leaf blowers, chain saws (tree cutters?), jackhammers, garbage trucks, etc. Extremely loud and repetitive sounds would send me running for the hills, if we had any hills here. So I do that since loud noises make me anxious, and I don't know why certain engines in this building bother me.
