Hello, Hira, welcome to PsychCentral. Hair pulling is technically called, "trichotillomania". Here's a good article on how there are lots and lots of people with your problem and how it can be helped:

I had a second cuzin who we were playing with as kids and we teased her (jokingly) and she ran in the bathroom and started pulling out her hair. I was thinking ummmmmmmmm what the heck? But you are not the only one.

I've been pulling my hair out since I was about 13 years old. It took me a while to realise I wasn't alone either, and it was only when I did that I realised it was possible to quit - you've made a good first step! On May 19th it'll be 17 months since I last pulled my hair out - people on this website have been a great help, keeping me going when I was struggling and not giving up on me when I failed the first few attempts.
Other than this site, what I've found helps me the most is making sure I don't have any free hands in situations when I'm most likely to pull my hair. If I'm studying, I'll hold a pen lid or something similar in my left hand or, if that's not enough, I'll wear a hat. If I'm reading a book, I'll hold it with both hands; if I'm watching TV, I'll do the same with the remote control. Have you tried writing down the situations when you pull your hair, and what you're feeling at the time? That can help you find a pattern. As for how to regrow the hair - I think just giving it time is the only thing that works as far as I know, sorry. Anyway, hope I helped a little. __________________ Her name is Rio, and she dances on the sand... |
