I am taking zoloft 200 mg and my OCD definitely has improved significantly as my thoughts in my head are about 85% gone and my rituals are about 70-75% gone but my OCD bothers me at work still. I have OCD and ADHD so I also take 60 MG of adderall a day but what really bothers me with my OCD is that a big problem of my OCD was numbers and organizing things and repeating numbers so in my work I have everything formatted into an excel file and I go back repeating certain clients instead of calling new ones. I never get to finish what I want to do. Thank god we have a girl we hired as a secretary to do my busy work but the worst part about my OCD is the "busy work". It drives my nuts....

I bought that book "Brain Lock" I believe it is called and I am half-way through but I need to stop wasting time on menial tasks but I am forced to go back and get them done in hopes of finishing other things but I never get them completely done. Any other suggestions would be highly APPRECIATED but sometimes I go crazy because I am doing well and making that paper but I can do such big things and my OCD sometimes gets in the way of me putting my excellent thoughts and ideas into action!

I"m glad the zoloft is helping. I've been told I have ocd because the only thing I ever do is clean! I don't have any words of wisdom. Just wanted you to know that you're being heard.

My OCD is still there but has improved...

Are you in therapy?

Having someone to work with helps a lot, and also, setting goals.

For example, I have OCD, and one of my rituals is hand washing...After doing the dishes, I used to wash my hands 2-3 times to make sure that they were clean enough so that I wouldn't contaminate everything else that I touched. It was so bad that if I washed less than that, I couldn't even eat, even if I never touched the food with my hands (say it was yogurt or something)!

My therapist worked with me though, and gave me rules about how much I could wash each week.

At first, it was really little steps...Washing only 2 times once or twice a week...And then it gradually became never washing more than 2 times...And now we're down to never washing more than once, and she soon wants me to just be able to rinse and be done.

We're about to start the same thing with another ritual...Just working together and taking baby steps.

Oh, and I'm on Prozac 20mg which has definitely helped.

I appreciate all the help....it is a battle but it surely is good to know who your enemy is unlike not knowing what you have. Now it is to help have my dad understand he has OCPD...

Quick question; in order to be a psychiatrist do you have to go to medical school like a reg. doctor or is it any different???

I agree that talk therapy is a big ten-four....A support group would be great for you right now. I was diagnosed with OCD in 1995, but I have more of the obsessions (intrusive thoughts) than the compulsions. What I do is try to remind myself, when I catch my mind obsessing on something, that this is part of my OCD, that's all. I sort of try to remind myself that, sometimes, these intrusive thoughts are part of my illness. Medication has really helped me rewire my thinking. I was on Luvox for 3.5 years. Then off for 5 yrs, now on low dose Prozac, which seems to be doing well. DON'T GIVE UP, MY FRIEND! YOU WILL OVERCOME!
