I am thinking that maybe my tummy problems are really anxiety related problems. Last night I was out at my parents house for supper to celebrate my mom's birthday and I had made supper and made something that I eat somewhat regularly and have not had problems with. Well yesterday my dad was out of sorts and cranky and taking it out on me and my mom. My friend Rex came over and as soon as he came through the door my dad was nice as pie. Well we ate dinner and as soon as the food hit my stomach I became nauseus. I took some Tagamet while out there and it helped a bit but as soon as I got home I threw up. Today I had lunch with my parents and Grandparents and could tell my dad was still out of sorts and he was quiet but I could still tell he was fuming about something. So again my tummy is upset after eating and I really didn't even eat much of my lunch...I ordered a 6oz sirloin and only ate half of it and mashed potatoes and didn't even eat half of them. I drank 2 diet cokes and that was it. Oh I ate 1 roll because the resturant we went to has awesome rolls. I didn't eat any of the peanuts because I knew if I did I'd fill up on them and not be able to eat any of my meal so I placed the peanuts on the other side of the table so I couldn't reach them. So I don't think I ate anything excessive or unusual. I didn't even eat the salad that came with my meal I asked them to bag that up ahead of time so I could bring it home with me and I'll eat that tomorrow with the left over steak on it. So I am wondering if maybe my tummy problems really aren't physical that they are pyschological. What do you think?

Yea it does it feels like someone is in my tummy just turning it inside out. After my dad goes to church tonight I'm going to call my mom and see what she thinks. She knows me pretty good so she might be able to shed some light on the situation.

it does sound like anxiety hun ..... breath in thru your nose slowly and then out thru your mouth about 3 times .... make time for yourself .... breathing can really help (properly i mean lol)

do something for you like listen to your fav music, have a long soak in the bath with candles .... maybe watch a movie .... hope you[re feeling better, hugs, Jinny xoxoxoxoxo

Oh, do I know how this feels. When I first started having panic attacks, I felt like eating sometimes was the most impossible thing to do, so I basically force fed myself. I think because of my irregular eating habits, I ended up losing a lot of weight. Luckly, it did not turn into an eating disorder because that is probably the last thing I ever need in my life.

And a couple of days ago, I was really upset, so I hardly touched food I made at lunch, and spent practically the rest of the afternoon asleep in my room because I felt sick to my stomach from being upset and had a horrible headache.

I was diagnosed with IBS like 8 years ago or something... and it is severely exacerbated by anxiety. When I get hit with anxiety, it literally takes a matter of two seconds before I am running to the bathroom. Then I get into an awful cycle because the stomach problems make me anxious. There was time when the cycle of anxiety and stomach problems was so bad that I dropped to 98 lbs and refused to in in restaurants. I have come a long way from that, but I still cannot control my stomach going off so badly with anxiety-- however, the way I handle the anxiety has improved.

It defintely could be. I have several diagnosed GI problems and they always get worse with stress and anxiety. Learning coping strategies will help...as I am still working on mine. Like anything, time and patience can lead to success.

Best of luck!

In the 80s, my mom took me to our physician because I was complaining of stomach pain. He asked me if I was under any stress (oh yeah, I was!) and then suggested I see a psychologist he had in his office.
He said my pain or discomfort was a stress related thing. I've since learned that belly pain can indeed be caused by anxiety. My psychiatrist said it has to do with the vagus nerve-to-brain connection.

Yeah it could.
All the time I think I have stomach cancer and my husband has to keep reminding me it is my anxiety or I think I might need my apendix out and it's usually at night and I get so anxious and have insomia and scared to death I'm dying.
I hate it..............................
