These past few days, I have:

- accidentally told a phone company I was married when trying to set up an account with them
- had my mind go blank at the bank when asked what I was there for
- been told something was only £1 when I thought it was £2 and still handing over £2 anyway
- gone to the wrong reception in the health centre and then missed out part of the form I had to fill in to register with them, meaning I got called back by the receptionist

all because having even a slight case of nerves when doing something seems to turn me into a complete idiot. Not thinking straight

ok, well, don't beat yourself up about it. These things can be put right.

Do some deep relaxing breathing before going into a social situation and take extra care of yourself while you are going through this. Tell yourself that you are not perfect and that everyone makes mistakes.

Awwww (((((((((( Rio )))))))))))))

Pegasus is so right....there is not a thing that you listed that was earthshattering or life threateningly bad and couldn't be set right pretty quickly Not thinking straight

Are you distracted with a lot of things going on in your life right now? I know when I get that way I become a tad scatterbrained myself.

One thing you are NOT is an idiot! Busy, stressed, anxious maybe...but never an idiot!

Thanks, nightbird. I don't think my memory's any worse than it usually is Not thinking straight, but distracted is likely - there's been a lot of new and different things happening lately. A few weeks ago I moved into a new flat, and I've had to set up accounts with the phone and utilities companies, register with a doctor and generally adjust to living away from home after being there all summer. I was in halls at university last year, but this is quite different! Not thinking straight My sister is staying with me as a temporary flatmate (my actual flatmate won't be moving in until September), but she's going home on Friday because she has to go back to school, so then I'm going to be on my own for at least two weeks. Not thinking straight I can't find a job (nobody seems to want someone who can only stay for a month and a half), but I'm going to volunteer instead so I can have some company and do something useful.

((((Pegasus)))) Thanks. Not thinking straight I have tried to put my mistake right with the phone company, but they don't seem to be paying any attention - all the letters I've had from them say I'm a Mrs, and they've spelled my surname wrong as well. Not thinking straight I thought I was doing better in social situations, but this is making me reconsider...still, you're right that everyone makes mistakes, hopefully I'll learn from these ones!

((((jinnyann)))) Thanks. Sorry to hear that, but it's good to know I'm not alone...I hate counting out change in front of people as well, I usually just hand over notes or my debit card so I don't have to. Not thinking straight
