Hi! Just wondering if anyone else has Anxiety issues with Hypochondriasis?

Ive suffered for years with Anxiety issues with just being diagnosed a couple years ago, and now I find that we are throwing Hypochondriasis into the mix (lucky me huh?).

Im not looking to be sick, its just when I get an ache or ain, I "KNOW" Im sick.....Let me explain....

Hal my brain is telling me Im silly, that Im young (37 is young still right? LOL) and that Im healthy....he Drs verify this too! But the other part of my brain is telling me the Drs are WRONG, that I am DYING....I KNOW BETTER THOUGH! Ok, so all this throws me into massive month long anxiety attacks which the only cure is Xanax. I hate taking the Xanax cause to me, its weakness, but what the heck....Im WEAK right now!

Anyone else have these issues??? Id love to find someone else to chat with and help cope...

hi missy,

in a way i do understand. i lived with abuse and fear almost daily. the only time i was ever treated better was when i was sick or injured in some way. so for me the hypochondria was a learned behavior in 4th grade when i also had a super-abusive teacher that year. i missed 33 days that year and i know i could not have been sick that often. the fear of what happened in the classroom and in my private life scared me so that i could induce a fever by worrying.

at 18, i found the first love and security i never knew before in a brand new relationship with God. somehow i started hearing new thoughts inside that challenged me when i got sick because i was afraid of something i needed to do or something i didn't understand. so....i can tell you this problem can be helped. a large part of all my recovery for my many problems has been finding the lies i believe and replacing them with truth. i do think you will find encouragement here. take it in and let it help and in time you can replace the lies and fears with truth and enjoy your genuine health. !
