I have this odd phobia of dead fish. I can't go swimming in lakes because of it, and I get really creeped out even when I see cooked fish. Does anyone else have a phobia that isn't very common?

Phobias are strange. I had an absolutely terrible experience with wasps as a child (wandered into a nest and was stung 20-30 times) but I am absolutely fine with wasps and bees. Meanwhile, I've never had a bad experience relating to heights, but I'm scared to death of them. (Can't even climb five feet onto a ladder without getting dizzy.)

HEIGHTS!!!! Yikes...I forgot about that one. I went to this amusement park last year and hubby thought it would be cool to go to the top of the "EIFFEL Tower". Not previously being aware that I hate a height phobia, I went. Got to the top. Elevator doors opened. I busted into tears and lost my breath. All I could see was sky and I my head started to spin. I clung to what little wall there was a grabbed my hubby as hard as I could and sobbed. The tour lady asked my hubby if i was OK. He said "NO!" She said well get her back on the elevator. She neglected to say that we had to walk around to the other side. In reality it was probably 10 feet, tops. To me it felt like 10000000000 miles. I got back on the elevator to go down and I never took my head out of hubbys neck. It was terrible. Bright side is.....I now know I hate heights..

Escalators. My heart races, I white knuckle the hand rail, I can't open my eyes except to check how much further it is to the bottom. Ugh. I hate them.

fish bones. We eat fish about once a week, and it has to be totally bone free, because if I come across a bone, I start gagging. It's not so much a conscious fear, just a physical reaction, which I think must be a conditioned response from when it was a conscious fear. If that makes sense...

<font color="blue"> I'm so ashamed to admit this because I've never heard of anyone else having this problem, but seeing people vomit scares the hell outta me. I go into a full-blown panic attack if I even so much as hear someone getting sick. I've been that way my whole life and it has caused me many a awkward moment, especially during flu season.

Also...clay animation. Creepiest thing on earth. Seriously. Gumby is evil. weird phobias?

Weird. weird phobias?

Fascinating to read all of your phobias... we're all SO different... and yet so similar!

I'm phobic/panic stricken about:
- pickles (I can't even let them touch my plate)
- condiments in general
- beetle or centi/milli-pede type bugs
- chair lifts
- turbulence (although it's odd that I have flown almost every week for work in the past 14 years and STILL am not over it)
- driving on wet or icy roads; even worse -- being a passenger

Thank god for Lexapro. It has really calmed me down about turbulence and wet roads. Can't say I'm over the other ones, though weird phobias?

WOW another escalator phobic! If there is a big line of people I first have to let them all past cuz it takes me a good minute or two actually step on. I can't close my eyes cuz I'm afraid of "falling off" soo I look straight up at the celing, my hands sweat so bad, and I can't converse with anyone while I'm on it. There is this HORRIBLE escalator in the Mall of America and I will do ANYTHING to avoid it!!! At least my family knows to let me go last and not give me a hard time or I'll burst into tears. My b.f. tries to help by holding my hand he tried to lead me on by hand when we started dating and I wriggled my hand out and stayed behind and he thought I was mad at him... I have to do it all on my own on my own time now he knows if he wants to stand by me he has to wait behind and not hold my hand untill I'm fully ready.

I'm extremely afraid of throwing up, and everything that has to do with it. If I feel like I'm going to, or if I see anyone else do it, I have a panic attack.

I have a phobia of throwing up while riding in a car with someone I don't know very well. I always get very nervous before going on a date with someone in a car for this reason. The other phobia I have is of passing out while I am driving the car but only if people are riding with me. I have to take anti-anxiety medication for both situations. I'm OK if it's just me driving the car.
