I've suffered from panic attacks for a little over a year now. Can anybody tell me what could help? I take my meds as I'm supposed to but they're NOT HELPING!!! I really wish I could overcome this. Somebody please give me any good recommendation they have. Thanks

Well, I would let my doctor or therapist know they are not working. They should be able to let you keep trying different medications until they find one, or some, that help.

Also I have found it helpful to just accept that the panic attack is happening, remind myself that I don't die from this, remind myself that it will be over shortly and keep breathing deeply. The more I try to fight the panic attack the worse it feels. The more I fear that I "might" have a panic attack the more likely it is to happen. I have panic attacks. I am a woman. I live in a house. I am married. I have two cute dogs. Panic attacks are just another fact of my life. I try not to dwell on it anymore than is necessary to take care of the problem.

But keep it to yourself please, don't tell me.

Have you tried any relaxation techniques? There are deep breathing exercises and several other methods that can help calm you down during a panic attack. One thing that helps me is to concentrate on my skin touching the chair I am sitting in and try to breath in slow deep breaths.

Oh honey I hear you!! I also have panic disorder, and no meds were working as they all made me sick. I finially found that relaxing and A LOT of deep breathing helped me. It dosent make things go away, but it helps you get through things when then come.

I agree with the others, but the biggie (imo) is most definitely acceptance.

Go for power walks, and let go of your anxiety as you walk. Breathe slowly and deeply. Stay in the moment. Remind yourself that you are okay. Repeat it over and over. When your mind wanders back to the fears, remind yourself again that you are okay ~ this will pass!

(((heartache))) I to can so relate! I had my 1st panic attack about 10 yrs ago but apparently it was a mild one (that time I was having a great time then it struck out of nowhere, I was laughing then I felt it...doom I felt like I was being sucked down a hole!) freaked me out!

10 yrs later (2007) it struck again, this time I called the ambulance(thought I was having a heart attack). It totally changed my life for the better (believe it or not) I quit every bad habit I had (alcohol, smoking, not excercising) The main thing I did was RESEARCH my butt off on what I had, I excercise (walking, yoga, meditation) you name it I tried it Vitamins, B-Complex, omega's, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(accepting that Panic Attacks are happening) and relizing we won't die from it..I still have the feelings but they are not as strong, they are more of annoyance now. I was on meds Zoloft, Ativan (which, thank god they were there when I was recovering). I was on meds for 9 months.

I just wanted you to know ther is a light at the end of this tunnel you can learn to live with it so it does not control you, you control it......god bless and take care.
