Panic Attacks and anti reflective coating on glasses
back in December 2009 I was walking home from my bus stop that I take on the weekends. A man was walking towards me and I was walking towards him. Somehow he saw a scared look on my face and as we crossed each other he said "it's ok". I did a double take looking back thinking "what"? Ever since then I started having panic attacks. I had a panic attack coming home from a neighbor's school concert in January 2010. Then in May 2010 I had a cousin staying with my grandfather and I for the summer. There was a family reunion in West Virginia in July. Normally if it's just my grandfather and I we spend the night before and night of the reunion in a hotel, but since my cousin was with us we just did a day trip. Coming home I started having another panic attack. Then in August 2010 I was at a potluck. As my grandfather and I were coming home I had another panic attack. Then I went on a senic railroad trip with my family in West Virginia. My grandfather and I met my mom and stepdad at the place. Coming home my mom didn't realize that she was bringing me home because granddad was staying in West Virginia to visit family. I wanted to get back to Arlington, but I started having a panic attack so I staid with my mom and stepdad. In March 2011 I was at a church dinner at my church and started having a panic attack. Then a week after that I was hanging out with friends and I started having a panic attack. Then in March 2012 I was at a church concert. I started having another panic attack. Then in October 2012 while I was at work I had another panic attack. I only got the panic attacks at night. I got them because of my abusive past. Finally I emailed my optometrist and asked if I could try the anti reflective coating. I wear glasses for a little bit distance and reading. I've always had transitional, so when I asked my optometrist if I could have anti reflective coating and transitionals at the same time? He said yes, those coatings are optional depending on the patient's prefrances. I now have the anti reflective coating on my glaases along with transitionals. Ever since I've had the anti reflective coating my panic attacks went away!! |

I sometimes have anxiety when I'm in a packed place, but with my IPod on my IPhone and anti reflective coating I am able to conquer that anxiety too.

Congrats on the panic attacks going away! It certainly feels like such a relief when they're gone

I have not had anymore panic attacks at night anymore ever since I've had my anti reflective coating on my glasses, but once and a while I still get them if I'm in a crowded place.

Light puts the light on you I guess. Deep inside I felt judged, criticized and fearful that someone will make fun of me. I grew up with a mother that wanted all the attention for herself in social gatherings so when I would get attention she would tell me: "shut up stupid, you don't know anything" She would insult me, ridicule me etc. Then I got a severe case of acne and people starting approaching me to give me their advice on how to "cure" it. I developed a fear of people looking at me too closely. How did I improve? I made conscious and serious efforts to put my attention or focus on the outside world, on what was going on around me. I focused on the objects and people around me and on the situation. I fought against the habit of focusing on myself, my feelings, my reactions, my performance. However, once you have develop a phobia it can come back in times when you are vey stressed out for whatever reason. But if you have learned to control it and you are determined to fight it then you can win and not let the phobia take over. it's very empowering knowing that you can control your fears. |

Also this past December I found out that I have low nearsightedness alongside astigmatism. So for the first time in years I now have the biggest confidence in myself that I never had before.

Wow I can not believe such a change would help. I TEND to panic a bit when I can not see without my contacts in.
