Hello. Social anxiety made me extremely anxious of this in the past. I felt the first time trying to this with someone like I was going to get a panic attack. But I've done it a few times with someone, so I said I would go by myself. What I had to do is to walk over to a bus station, then take the bus to a train station. Find the platform to go on, and go on my train until I reach my dad's town. It takes five hours to go from one to the other, so it's extremely stressful and long. But I did it! I walked to the bus station. The bus was late, and I was extremely anxious over that because I didn't want to be late. It was 10 mins late. I saved half an hour to go buy dinner and find my platform. Well being late cut 10 mins off. And then while on the bus, there was lots of traffic, so another 10 mins extra was spent in traffic. I was so anxious, I didn't want to miss the train. I sped-walked to the station, which took about 5 mins. And it was anxious because I couldn't find the platform. I saw some other people getting on, so I walked over there quickly, he scanned my ticket, and I got on to the train. I was so stressed. Late is a big no-no for me. I didn't have to talk to anyone. I haven't even opened my mouth other than to breathe. So I did it. This is my big success for today. I did have some obsessive thoughts on the way (I feel people are going to steal from me), but I managed it. This was a small, but good, step for me. I just wanted to share with others how I felt and made it through. I did use one trick I learned from a self-help book I bought. It's about the "monkey mind". It's what controls the fight and flight response (it's a teen help book). And what you have to do is when you have an anxious thought, you tell yourself "thank you monkey mind, but you aren't needed at the moment" You keep doing that until it goes away. It may not work at first, but it seems to help a bit for me. For minor anxious thoughts though. Anything big it may not work. It has already prevented me from having a panic attack after work one day (angry customer). Anyways, that was my moment and I feel pretty accomplished and hungry, because I didn't buy dinner and it's quarter to eight (or twenty wherever you are) here. I hope you find something that works for you .
